On the night of 8 September 1915 a German Zeppelin bombed Dereham
causing considerable
damage and killing five people. The White Lion was so badly damaged that it never again opened as a pub. The Inland Revenue building now stands on the site.

This plaque set into the wall in St. Withburga Lane commemorates the Zeppelin raid
This little painting (dated 1918) was copied from the autograph book of a local young lady. It is said to have been inspired by the Dereham Zeppelin Raid.
